Social Circle Matters
Introduction
Welcome back to the weekly newsletter.
If you feel stuck, it’s easy to blame effort. Or talent. Or luck. But often it’s simpler: you’re surrounded by normal standards. Normal talk. Normal excuses. This week is about a lever that works fast but it’s not always easy: your circles. When you spend time with people who execute, improve, and win as a baseline, your own standards rise without a pep talk.
Choosing your social circles means choosing environments where progress is expected. Not “manifesting.” Real action. Real feedback. When “winning is normal” in the room, you stop negotiating with yourself. You start moving.
Weekly highlight: Join circles where winning is normal.
We copy more often than we realize. We absorb language, habits, pace, and standards from whoever we’re around. If your circle treats growth as optional, you will too. If your circle treats learning, health, and execution as normal, you start doing it without friction. This isn’t motivation. It’s environment design.
The hidden cost of the wrong circle
The wrong circle doesn’t always look toxic. It can look like:
- everyone is busy but nobody delivers
- everyone complains but nobody changes anything
- ambition is mocked as “try-hard”
- progress is always “starting next week”
You can still be a good person in that room. But if you stay there too long, you’ll start shrinking your goals to fit the culture.
What “winning is normal” means
It doesn’t mean everyone is rich or famous. It means:
- they share what they’re working on
- they push each other with respect
- they value learning and execution
- they treat setbacks as part of the game
In those circles, effort is not embarrassing. Discipline is not weird. Growth is expected.
How to find the right circle (without overthinking)
Start with proximity and behavior, not status.
Look for groups where people:
- meet consistently
- produce visible work
- talk in actions, not dreams
- have simple rules and strong culture
This can be a professional group, a training group, a running club, a writing group, a community class, or a small peer circle. The platform doesn’t matter. The standards do.
How to enter without feeling awkward
Most people don’t join circles because they feel behind. That’s backwards. Join precisely because you’re behind. You don’t have to be impressive. You have to be consistent.
You earn your place by being reliable, not loud.
Use circles to speed up growth
Here’s what a good circle gives you:
- faster feedback (you stop guessing)
- higher standards (you stop settling)
- proof of possibility (you see what “normal winning” looks like)
- better habits (you copy what works)
When you watch someone finish projects, train weekly, or improve skills steadily, your brain stops treating it as rare. It becomes reachable.
Protect your time from “anti-circles”
An anti-circle is any space that drains standards. It might be:
- endless group chats
- social media loops
- negativity-heavy friend groups
- workplaces where cynicism is “culture”
You don’t need to fight them. You just need to limit exposure. You can love people and still choose better rooms for your growth.
The truth
If you want a new level, you need a new environment. You can do it alone, but it takes longer and costs more willpower. The right circle reduces willpower needs. It pulls you forward.
Application
-
Identify one area you want to improve (health, career, skill, planning).
-
Find one circle where people already treat that as normal.
-
Show up once this week. Stay quiet if needed. Learn the culture.
-
Decide: does this room raise your standards or lower them?
Summary
Your circle trains you every day. Choose circles where progress is normal and excuses are not celebrated. When winning is the baseline in the room, you rise without forcing it.
Till Next Time,
Maciej
