Driving Career Value

Introduction

Welcome back to the weekly newsletter.

We sometimes think a new job would fix everything. New boss, new team, new pay. But often the same ceiling follows us. Why? Because changing jobs doesn't grow YOUR value. You grow your value. New job can get you salary increase and a new environment to grow but it’s always up to us.

This week, we’ll use the PhoeniX Career Equation and the core frameworks I introduced over the last weeks (Product Pyramid and Promotion Ladder) to raise your value right where you are. No waiting for luck. No title change required. Let’s build momentum that compounds.

Weekly highlight: How to Drive More Career Value

Here’s the truth that changed my career: most people don’t have a career problem, they have a value problem. Your Price (comp, pull, opportunity) flows from Product, Promotion and Place. Raise those levers and your ceiling lifts.

Let’s start with product.

Solve harder problems.
If you touch the same tasks, in the same way, at the same speed, your price is capped. Move up in difficulty and ambiguity. Ask:

  • What decision does this work drive?
  • What’s the blocker?
  • What would “10Ă— cleaner” look like?

Replace manual grind with systems thinking: simplify, standardize, automate, then elevate the question you’re solving.

Get faster where it matters.
Speed is a multiplier on value. Tighten your toolset, build templates, cut dead meetings, and group recurring work. The goal isn’t “do more.” The goal is free time to take on bigger problems. Speed on small work buys capacity for high-leverage work.

Then shift from solo to team. This is the crisis moment most people hit: you max your own execution and realize the next level needs other people. That’s Style.

Upgrade your style.
Clarity beats volume. Frame the “why,” set clean outcomes, run tight meetings, write decisive memos, close loops with stakeholders. Handle conflict calmly. Make it easy to work with you. Your work quality stays high, you improve collaboration and communication. That’s how you become the person others choose to partner with.

As your scope expands, you enter Leadership on the pyramid. You focus more on influence. set direction, align players, and unblock flows. You stop being “the person who does tasks” and become “the person who makes outcomes happen.”

Now, make the value visible with Promotion.

Perception (manage up and across).
Document wins in plain language: problem → action → result. Share concise updates and “before/after” snapshots. Not noise but useful signal that helps decisions. This is self-advocacy done with humility and service.

Network (build pull).
Map your internal circles. Support adjacent teams. Offer tools others can reuse (templates, decision trees, dashboards). Value travels through relationships; build them on contribution, not favors.

Brand (be known for one thing).
Pick a clear lane that fits your Place (company, industry, market). Become “the person who [solves X] to drive [business result Y].” Consistent achievements + consistent outcomes create reputation.

Finally, keep the loop running:

  1. Solve harder problems.
  2. Get faster.
  3. Collaborate better and lead more.
  4. Show the impact (Perception, Network, Brand).
  5. Capture the Price.
  6. Reinvest in learning and scope.
  7. Repeat.

Do this quarter after quarter and you won’t need to chase roles. Roles will chase you.

Application

  1. Pick one harder problem in your current lane; define the decision it must unlock.

  2. Remove one bottleneck (template, automation, or rule change) to gain two free hours weekly.

  3. Run one crisp alignment memo (why, outcome, owners, timeline) before the next cross-team task.

  4. Create one visible artifact (before/after case slide or metrics snapshot) that proves the result.

  5. Write your brand sentence: “I’m the person who solves X to drive Y,” and use it to filter what you take on.

Summary

Growth isn’t a title. It’s the value loop: harder problems, smarter speed, better style, clear promotion; then repeat. Work the PhoeniX Career Equation on purpose: upgrade your Product, raise your Promotion, align with your Place, and the Price follows. Start inside your current role.

Till next time,

Maciej
